Nestled in between the snow-covered peaks of Fairview Mountain and Victoria Glacier in Banff National Park, you’ll find Lake Louise, the most photographed glacial lake in Canada.
This world renowned lake, previously named “Emerald Lake”, will offer you little piece of heaven and serenity during your time in Canada and it certainly lives up to its nickname “The Jewel of The Canadian Rockies”. We’ve tried to avoid the classic cliches up until now but with all this emerald and jewel talk, we’re going to have to go ahead and call Lake Louise a hidden gem. But seriously, it really is.
The lake itself boasts a magnificent shimmering turquoise colour which (fun fact alert) is the result of tiny mineral deposits of glacial silt being carried down from Victoria Glacier. You’ll find it at its most impressive in the summer months, although let’s be honest, it’s breathtaking all year round.
Tourists flock here from all over the world to take in this awe-inspiring backdrop but Lake Louise has so much more to offer than just an incredible view. From watersports to hiking and grizzly bear spotting, a visit here is well worth your time and if we can give you one word of advice, it’s don't forget your camera!
