Whistler is about as quintessentially Canadian as it gets. Breathtaking scenery, outdoor activities galore, plenty of plaid-shirt-clad locals and mandatory beer-swigging to celebrate the best of life’s great adventures. The two mountains – Whistler and Blackcomb – are the headline acts and it’s on their slopes that you’ll have the most fun when holidaying here.
Discover the best of them both with a trip on the Guinness World Record-breaking PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola. Not only the highest cable car above ground, but also boasting the longest unsupported span between two cable car towers, this gondola ride is a spectacle in itself. Steel yourself away from the impressive ride and it’s the 360 degree panoramas that are the real stars of the show with this attraction. Cameras at the ready because a snap of these impressive landscapes will rake in the likes.
For the thrill seekers, the adventure to be had in this resort is multifarious to say the least. Winter encourages skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating, tobogganing, ice fishing and glacial hikes. And with not just plenty of black, but double black graded pistes to be found here, adrenaline pumping is much of an understatement. Then there’s summer when, quite uniquely, you can still ski on the very top of these famed peaks, but the verdant landscapes also open up the opportunity to hike, bike and kayak.
Like much of Canada’s wilderness, wildlife is plentiful in Whistler. For those keen to see Canada’s resident bears, pick from the Active, Wildlife (or both!) experience packs for the incredible opportunity to see bears from the sky on a zipride or on the ground in a 4x4. As well as cougars, deer and beavers, you’re also likely to spot a furry marmot. It was the whistle of these noisy creatures that gave the destination its name after all.
