Despite the name, this destination will do anything but repulse. Unless you’re not a fan of white, sun-soaked sands – and in that case, who are you? Ok, all jokes aside. You’re more than entitled to not be a fan of a beach resort, we’re not here to judge. But there’s a reason that Repulse Bay is Hong Kong’s most popular beach, and probably quite surprisingly, it’s not for its laid-back vibes. If it’s a tranquil oasis that you’re after, you won’t find it here.
Leafy, tropical trees meet buzzy beachfront bars and glitzy restaurants: these powdery sands are fringed with action. And its new reputation as the island’s billionaire hotspot confirms an upmarket feel to what some still see as Hong Kong’s answer to a party beach – an unsurprising assumption considering the number of glamorous day clubs that dot the bay.
But despite its definite resort style, this is still a pretty picturesque spot in which to top up your tan. The island’s verdant undulations, that are so distinctive to this corner of the world, backdrop the shiny edifices and jungled greenery that amalgamate to define the bay’s sumptuous curves. And when you’ve had your fill of lounging around, there’s plenty to keep you occupied. From its trendy boutiques to its hip eateries, Repulse Bay certainly seems to have its finger on the pulse when it comes to what is currently cool.
Locals may come here for the full holiday experience, but when short on time Repulse Bay is a good ol’ feel the sand between your toes kind of stop. What’s not to love?
