Hong Kong is a city of sights, there’s no doubt about that. With more high rise buildings than anywhere else in the world, this is a destination that encourages you to get up close and personal with its vantage points. But the man-made structures just can’t compete with the naturally born splendour of Victoria Peak’s dizzying heights. At 396 metres above sea level, this is the island’s highest point, and it’s from here that you will get all those postcard-perfect pictures that your Instagram has been calling out for.
From the glossy gleam of the glassy structures to the show-stealing dazzle of Victoria Harbour, one thing’s for sure: this is a cityscape that will vie for your attention. And as you head along the Peak Circle Walk, bowled over by breathtaking views every which way that you turn, it soon becomes apparent that it’s not only the renowned skyscrapers that are here to impress. To the south of the island, the tropical wilderness of its lush mountains do their best to display their sumptuous curves for you too.
Look closely and you’ll be able to make out the neon lights of Kowloon, the white sand bays of the island’s quieter coast, pretty harbours and the iconic sampan boats that are the tell-tale sign of where you are in the world. And further afield you’ll be able to make out the region’s other islands – of which there are a staggering 260 – and, if you really focus those binoculars, you’ll be able to see Hong Kong’s neighbouring special administrative region of China: Macau. The panoramas really do just continue to unfold.
