One of the best ways to explore Shanghai is to simply stroll around. Start with walk along one of the city’s favourite hangouts - the Bund. Admire the art deco and neoclassical architecture, browse the boutique shops and grab a bite to eat at one of the stylish waterfront restaurants.
If it’s authentic Chinese culture you’re after, spend some time mooching around the old town and get swept up in the bustling atmosphere. Peek inside the traditional temples, sip tea in the famous Shànghǎi Teahouse and explore the beautiful pavilions, rockeries and fish ponds of Yuayan Garden and the adjacent Yuayan Bazaar.
Another must-see spot is the lilongs of the former French Concession. This is one of the city’s most stylish areas and popular hubs for shopping, dining and entertainment. Cycle or walk along the leafy, villa-lined backstreets and stop off to check out the arts and craft museums or browse the boutiques. Re-fuel in one of the chic eateries - you’ll find everything from Shanghai pork buns to Spanish tapas.
