Introducing the Meraki Travel base itinerary
What is a base itinerary?
Base means bottom or boring - right? Not in the case of Meraki Travel base itineraries. We've spent a lot (and I mean a lot) of time trying to come up with a better name than 'base', so after reading this article feel free to email us if you have a better name.
So what does base mean to us? Our base itineraries have been carefully crafted with three major factors in mind:
1. Exciting routes that cover the highlights of a destination
Our travel experts have scoured the globe to bring you the best routes in the world's most exciting destinations - from the classics like South Africa's Garden Route and India's Golden Triangle to slightly off the beaten track alternatives like the natural beauty of The Yangtze River.
2. This is not bare minimum travel
We've thought of everything so you don't have to. Each of our base itineraries include the following:
✓ Opt-out international flights from the UK
✓ In-destination travel - think trains, private car and driver, light aircrafts, float planes, self-drive… we've arranged how to get you around in the best way possible
✓ English speaking guides - who take pride in sharing their knowledge with you
✓ Standard accommodation - hand-picked by our destination experts
✓ Select meals
3. A good base is all you need
Our base itineraries are the perfect starting point, in fact we've made them so good you could just book a base itinerary and have a fabulous holiday but you'd be missing the chance to personalise your trip and make it truly exceptional. Personalisation is what makes a Meraki Travel holiday so special and with just a few simple clicks, you can turn one of our base itineraries into a holiday that's completely unique to you.
Why not start with the route? Each base itinerary has up to six additional legs. Want to experience life in the Himalayan Foothills - go for it! Keen to spot wildlife in the national parks - add in a nature loop. Want to finish your trip with a few days R&R at the beach - yes please! We'll take care of the extra transfers and accommodation and many of our legs come with exciting extra experiences too.
Our base itineraries include standard accommodation, these are our favourite three and four star properties that all come highly recommended with excellent reviews. But perhaps you prefer small boutique hotels or it's a special trip and you want to go all out luxury? No problem - we always offer up to four accommodation levels so you can stick with our staple standard, splash out on luxury or upgrade to somewhere in between. Read more about our hotel selection.
Our base itineraries include a variety of the must do experiences; the bits you'd be made to miss - think Taj Mahal at sunrise, game drives, whale watching and sightseeing trips to ancient forts and temples. But if you're after more than just a flavour of the highlights, our travel experts have researched extensively to bring you the experience packs. These packs have been designed around a particular theme and allow you to tailor your holiday time around your interests.
Foodies can experience cooking classes and sample local delicacies, those who like to be active can hike to remote waterfalls and cycle through the back lanes. If your looking for an authentic experience, meet the locals and learn their crafts or make your trip extra special with our once-in-a-lifetime experiences - we're talking helicopter rides and hot air balloons. Add one, add two, add the whole batch - we’ve designed the itineraries to allow you to add as many of these experience packs as you like. Read more about the experience packs.
Not in a hurry? Then opt for relaxed pace. This adds extra nights into your itinerary in the places you'll need them most. Use the extra free time to delve into the local culture or simply enjoy a bit more pool and beach time.
